Designed for both beginner and intermediate participants, this series provides guided instruction in a supportive environment to help faculty and staff improve technique, build confidence, and enhance overall fitness.
Beginner Weight Lifting Series
This beginner-friendly weight lifting training offers structured guidance for those new to strength training or wanting to start their journey.
The 6-week course will focus on proper form, basic exercises, and gradually increasing weight as strength develops. Each week will be broken up into common exercises like squats, lunges, rows, and presses to provide a foundation for more advanced training. The training will be led by our Health and Wellness Coordinator, Carissa Kish, who will provide individual feedback and adjustments to ensure safe and effective training.
Course Foundations
- 1-hour session every Wednesday or Monday with our Coordinator
- Teach a dynamic warm-up
- Explain the movement and what falls under each category of “lift”
- Demonstration, form check, muscle activation
- Workout to follow, focusing on each week's “objective”
Spring 2026 Session Dates
There are two session options for our Spring 2026 Series:
- January 21 - March 4, every Wednesday from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM (FULL)
- January 21: Orientation and Program Overview
- January 28 - March 4: Training Weeks
- March 23 - May 4, every Monday from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
- March 23: Orientation
- March 30 - May 4: Training Weeks

Intermediate Weight Lifting Series
This 6-week intermediate weight-lifting training will be offered for those who have a confident understanding of most movements and want to increase their training and knowledge in the gym.
Expect to work with dumbbells, barbells, and possibly machines or cables. Each week will be focused on a main lift, including squats, bench press, deadlifts, and various push and pull exercises. The training will be led by our Health and Wellness Coordinator, Carissa Kish, who will provide individual feedback and adjustments to ensure safe and effective training as well as answer any questions.
