The Employee Wellness Health Clinic is a collaborative initiative designed to improve access to healthcare services for Appalachian State University employees and their spouses by providing accessible, evidence-based care. This inter-professional approach connects individuals with a range of services including preventive care, wellness resources, health screenings and primary care support in a convenient campus setting.

This interdisciplinary approach helps provide comprehensive care while creating valuable learning opportunities for Appalachian State students. The Employee Wellness Health Clinic brings together expertise from:

  • Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff
  • Dietetics
  • Kinesiology
  • Counseling for Faculty and Staff Services
Who can use the Employee Health Clinic?

The Employee Health Clinic serves App State employees and their spouses who are new to the area or have not yet established a primary care provider. Our clinical team will provide initial care, address immediate health concerns and assist with connecting patients to App Family Medicine for continued primary care and long-term health management.

What services are available?

Bridge Primary Care appointments address a variety of health concerns, including:

  • Elevated blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Prediabetes or diabetes
  • Weight management support
  • Chronic disease management
  • Health and wellness coaching referrals
What insurance is accepted?

The Employee Wellness Clinic accepts NC Employee Health plans and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. 

What if I don't have insurance?

The clinic offers a sliding fee scale for patients who are uninsured. Payments are adjusted for those who qualify. For more information, please contact the clinic front desk at 828-262-8658.

Molly Benedum

Molly Benedum, MD, FAAFP

Molly Benedum, MD, FAAFP is the Supervising Physician for the Employee Wellness Clinic. She is also the Executive Director of Academics at UNCHA, Program Director of the MAHEC Boone Family Medicine Residency Program, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill. 

Melissa Viatori

Melissa Viatori, DNP, FNP-C

Melissa Viatori, DNP, FNP-C has been a Nurse Practitioner since 2009 and a Registered Nurse since 2005. Her background is in Family Practice and Oncology.

Melinda Bogardus

Melinda Bogardus, PhD, FNP-C

Melinda Bogardus, PhD, FNP-C has been a Registered Nurse since 1998 and a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1999. Her background is in Family Practice and Public Health.

Your medical records are maintained securely and are accessible only to authorized healthcare professionals involved in your care. Information about your visit will not be shared with your supervisor, department, or other university personnel without your written permission, unless required by law.

We are dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and confidential environment where employees can seek care, ask questions, and make informed decisions about their health with confidence.

We are a non-emergent clinic and cannot offer any after-hours support
